NVO House Invites You to an Online Seminar on Critical Thinking: Not Everything That Sounds Convincing Is True – Online, September 9, 2026

NVO House invites representatives of associations and foundations of non-governmental organisations in Riga to participate in an online seminar on critical thinking. The seminar will take place on September 9, 2026. It will focus on evaluating information that sounds convincing but is not always true. The session will be led by investigative journalist Inga Spriņģe. She is a co-founder of the Baltic Centre for Investigative Journalism Re:Baltica and has more than 20 years of professional experience. Over the past ten years, the lecturer has worked extensively on disinformation, misleading information and propaganda in Latvia and internationally. The seminar is part of NVO House’s autumn seminar season. It will examine security issues through the ability to critically evaluate information. Participants will learn techniques that help identify misleading content in the news and on social media. The use of emotions in social media manipulation will also be discussed. The practical approach will be useful for organisations that communicate with various groups in society on a daily basis. Participation in the seminar is free of charge.

What to Expect at the Event

The seminar will explain how to recognise “red flags” on social media and in the news, as well as the most common disinformation and fraud techniques. Participants will learn practical information verification tools, find out how to respond to identified disinformation, and discuss what to do when false information is spread about an organisation or its employees.

Venue and Time

The seminar will take place online on September 9, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The planned duration is two hours.

Tickets

Participation in the seminar is free of charge. Registration was available until September 8, 2026.

Important Information for Visitors

  • The seminar is intended for representatives of associations and foundations of non-governmental organisations in Riga.
  • Photographs and/or video recordings may be made during the seminar for publicity materials.

Why Attend

The seminar provides an opportunity to strengthen skills that help participants verify information and act more responsibly in the digital environment. Inga Spriņģe’s experience in investigative journalism and disinformation research will make it possible to explore the topic through practical examples applicable to the daily work of NGOs.
