Tech News - Back Tap Feature on Your Samsung Phone

How to Unlock the Hidden Back Tap Feature on Your Samsung Phone

Double Tap the Back – A Smart Shortcut You Didn’t Know You Needed

Ever wished you could launch your favorite app, take a screenshot, or control your phone just by tapping the back of it? While Samsung doesn’t include this feature by default like iPhones or some Pixel models, there’s a clever trick to make it happen — and it works beautifully.

Let’s explore how to bring this hidden feature to life on your Samsung device.

What Is Back Tap?

Back Tap is a feature that lets you double-tap or triple-tap the back of your phone to perform actions like:

  • Taking a screenshot
  • Opening the camera
  • Turning on the flashlight
  • Launching your favorite app
  • Controlling smart devices
  • Running a quick command

No buttons, no swipes — just a quick tap on the back.

Samsung’s Hidden Weapon: Good Lock + RegiStar

To activate this, you’ll need two things from Samsung:

  1. Good Lock – Samsung’s official customization toolkit.
  2. RegiStar – A module inside Good Lock that unlocks back tap controls.

Here’s how you do it:

Step-by-Step: Activate Back Tap on Samsung

1. Download Good Lock

  • Open the Galaxy Store (Samsung’s app store).
  • Search for Good Lock and install it.

2. Install RegiStar

  • Open Good Lock and go to the "Life up" tab.
  • Find RegiStar and tap Install.

3. Set Up Back Tap

  • Launch RegiStar from Good Lock.
  • Select “Back-Tap action.”
  • Turn it ON.
  • Assign custom actions for double tap or triple tap — you choose what it does!

Now, try tapping the back of your phone. Magic? Almost.

Which Samsung Phones Support This?

This feature works on devices running:

  • One UI 5.0 or newer (Android 13+)
  • Recent models like Galaxy S21, S22, S23, Fold, Flip

Older or budget models may not support RegiStar. If it doesn’t show in Good Lock, your phone might not be compatible.

Bonus: Add More Power with Routines

Want your phone to open Spotify when you double-tap or enable Do Not Disturb at night? You can combine Back Tap with Modes and Routines in Samsung Settings to go even further.

Alternative for Unsupported Devices

If RegiStar isn’t available:

  • Download the Tap, Tap app from third-party sources (caution: it requires accessibility permissions).
  • Set up custom gestures with a few taps and tweaks.

Final Thoughts

Back Tap transforms your phone into a smarter and faster tool, letting you skip menus and gestures. It’s a small change with big everyday convenience.

Give it a try — and impress your friends with this hidden Samsung trick!
