Opening of the Kundziņsala Overpass – Riga, October 30, 2026
On October 30, 2026, the opening event of the Kundziņsala overpass will take place in Riga. The event is organized by the Riga City Municipality and the Freeport of Riga Authority. The opening will begin at 11:00. The event location is Tvaika iela 27A. The new traffic overpass connects Tvaika iela with Kundziņsala. It creates a more direct connection to the Port of Riga and industrial areas. The overpass is intended to improve the movement of freight and other motor vehicles. It will help divert a larger flow of freight traffic away from the city centre. Pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure has also been built at the site. The overpass has two traffic lanes in each direction. The opening event will provide an opportunity to explore an important addition to Riga’s transport infrastructure.
What to Expect at the Event
The new Kundziņsala traffic overpass from Tvaika iela will be opened at the event. The overpass crosses the Sarkandaugava branch, three railway tracks and an above-ground oil pipeline, connecting with the previously constructed Daudersala overpass. It strengthens the transport link between Kundziņsala, the Port of Riga and the city’s arterial road network.
