Best Recipes - Quick Smoked Chicken Pasta Salad

This smoked chicken pasta salad is built for busy days: it’s filling, fresh, and comes together fast. Small pasta shapes provide a satisfying base, smoked chicken adds deep savory flavor, and a simple salad dressing (or sour cream with or without mayonnaise) ties everything together. With leeks, tomato, and plenty of herbs, the salad stays bright and aromatic while still feeling like a complete meal.

It’s a practical recipe you can make for lunch, a light dinner, or to pack for work. Because the ingredient list is short and the steps are straightforward, it’s also easy to repeat and adjust using the herbs you have on hand—without changing the core idea of the dish.

Ingredients

  • 200 g small pasta
  • 150 g smoked chicken
  • 3–4 tablespoons salad dressing
  • Leek, green onions, dill, and other herbs (to taste)
  • 1 medium tomato

Alternative: Instead of salad dressing, use sour cream, with or without mayonnaise.

Preparation Time

15–20 minutes

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta. Boil the small pasta until tender. Drain well. If you prefer a less sticky salad, rinse briefly with cool water and drain again. Let the pasta cool slightly so it doesn’t thin out the dressing.
  2. Slice the chicken. Cut the smoked chicken into small bite-size pieces or thin strips for even distribution.
  3. Prep the vegetables and herbs. Thinly slice the leek. Dice the tomato into small pieces. Finely chop green onions, dill, and any other herbs you’d like to include.
  4. Combine the base. In a mixing bowl, add the cooked pasta, smoked chicken, leek, and tomato.
  5. Add the dressing. Stir in 3–4 tablespoons of salad dressing until everything is evenly coated. If using sour cream (optionally mixed with mayonnaise), add it gradually and mix to the consistency you like.
  6. Finish with herbs. Sprinkle chopped green onions, dill, and other herbs over the top. Gently toss once more, or leave some herbs on top for a fresh look.

Tips

  • If the leek tastes too sharp, slice it very thin and soak briefly in cold water, then drain and pat dry.
  • For the best texture, let the pasta cool before mixing in the dressing.
  • Start with less dressing, mix, and add more only if needed—this keeps the salad from becoming heavy.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve immediately as a quick lunch or easy dinner.
  • Bring it to a potluck or picnic; it holds up well and is easy to portion.
  • If making ahead, add the chopped herbs right before serving for the freshest flavor and color.
