Best Recipes - Homemade Lasagna with Ground Meat and Creamy Cheese Sauce
This comforting lasagna combines a savory ground-meat filling with sautéed vegetables and a rich cream-and-cheese topping. It’s filling without being heavy, slices beautifully after a short rest, and works well for both weeknight dinners and casual gatherings. The total preparation time is about 50 minutes, with the oven doing most of the finishing work while the flavors come together.
Ingredients
- 12 lasagna sheets
- 400 g ground meat
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1/2 celery root
- 1 carrot
- Tomato sauce
- Fresh herbs, nutmeg
- 150 g cheese
- 1 egg
- 200 g heavy cream
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Oil for frying
Preparation Time
50 min.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Peel and finely chop the onion, celery root, and carrot. Mince the garlic.
- Heat a little oil in a large pan or pot. Sauté the onion, celery root, carrot, and garlic until softened and fragrant.
- Add the ground meat and cook, stirring to break it up, until browned. Add herbs and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in 4 tablespoons of tomato sauce and cook briefly. Add chopped greens/herbs, then season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
- In a bowl, whisk the egg, then mix in the heavy cream and 100 g of grated cheese until smooth.
- If your lasagna sheets need pre-cooking, boil them according to the package directions and drain well. Place 4 cooked sheets in the bottom of the dish.
- Spread on a layer of the meat mixture and drizzle over about 1/3 of the cream-cheese sauce. Repeat: lasagna sheets, meat, sauce.
- Finish with lasagna sheets, then the remaining meat mixture, pour over the remaining sauce, and sprinkle with the last 50 g of grated cheese.
- Bake at 200°C for 30–40 minutes until bubbling and golden. Let rest 5–10 minutes before slicing.
Tips
- Use the right sheets: some types bake directly in the sauce, while others should be boiled first—follow your package instructions.
- Don’t skip the resting time; it helps the layers set and makes cleaner slices.
- Add nutmeg sparingly. A small pinch is enough to round out the creamy sauce.
Serving Suggestions
Serve with a crisp green salad and extra chopped herbs on top. This lasagna is satisfying on its own, but it also pairs nicely with simple sliced vegetables or a light side salad for balance.
