Sonora Vaice as Maria Callas – Dzintari Concert Hall Small Hall, December 4, 2026

Terence McNally’s play “Master Class” will be presented at the Small Hall of Dzintari Concert Hall in Jūrmala. Opera singer Sonora Vaice will take on the role of Maria Callas. The performance leads into the world of the legendary opera diva, where fame, love and creative sacrifices are closely intertwined. The play is based on the master classes led by Callas at the Juilliard School in New York in the early 1970s. Young singers arrive to study, but encounter a demanding, sharp and ironic personality. Callas expects more from an artist than a beautiful voice and accurately sung notes. In the performance, present-day events intertwine with memories of triumphs, loneliness, losses and her relationship with Aristotle Onassis. At the heart of the story are talent, ambition, love and the price a person pays for a place in the arts. This is Sonora Vaice’s first role in dramatic theatre.
