Show “Diskri… What?” – Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace, October 19, 2026

A free performance, “Diskri… What?”, created by actor and comedian Jānis Skutelis, will take place in Riga on October 19, 2026. The event is part of the Ministry of Welfare’s social campaign “Lower the Threshold”. Through humor, the performance will examine everyday prejudices and situations in which words, assumptions, or attitudes can create obstacles for others. Witty observations and everyday examples will encourage the audience to reflect on an inclusive and respectful attitude in society. Attention will also be given to intersectional discrimination, particularly in relation to age, gender, and disability. The event programme will begin one hour before the performance. Visitors will be able to try three sensory stations and experience the visible and invisible challenges that other people face in their daily lives. The performance will take place in the Great Hall of Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace. Admission is free with an invitation obtained in advance. The number of invitations is limited. The event may appeal to anyone who wishes to better understand equal opportunities and inclusion through humor and personal experience.

What to expect at the event

From 6:00 p.m., before the performance, three sensory stations will be available, featuring tasks that encourage visitors to view everyday situations from a different perspective. The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will address prejudices, attitudes, and obstacles that other people may encounter in everyday life through humor.

Venue and time

The event will take place on October 19, 2026, at Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace, 36 Ziemeļblāzmas Street, Riga, LV-1015. The event begins at 6:00 p.m., while the performance begins at 7:00 p.m. The performance will take place in the palace’s Great Hall on the second floor.

Tickets

Admission is free with complimentary invitations, which are limited in number. Invitations can be obtained from the Ziemeļblāzma Culture Palace box office on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or from the Riga Neighbourhood Residents’ Centre at 49/53 Brīvības Street.

Important information for visitors

  • The Culture Palace is accessible to people with mobility impairments; a ramp leads to the entrance.
  • The Great Hall on the second floor can be reached by lift.
  • For easier access to the palace grounds, visitors are advised to use the entrance by the information centre on Ziemeļblāzmas Street.
  • If additional support is required, including sign language interpretation, this must be arranged with the event organisers in advance.

Why it is worth attending

“Diskri… What?” combines the stand-up comedy format with an opportunity to reflect on important issues in society. The sensory stations and the performance created by Jānis Skutelis offer both an engaging evening programme and an opportunity to notice how the everyday environment and attitudes affect other people.
