The Knowledge Commission of the Riga Latvian Society invites you to a lecture by philosopher Dr. phil. Māris Kūlis on terrorism, truth and the perception of reality in an age of uncertainty. The lecture will take place on October 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Līgo Hall of the Riga Latvian Society House. Māris Kūlis will address the problems of terrorism, propaganda and truth. The discussion will examine how violence, information and its interpretation shape people’s perception of reality. One of the central questions will be the difficulty of distinguishing truth from appearance. The lecture will also encourage reflection on the role of philosophy in such a situation. Māris Kūlis is a philosopher and researcher at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Latvia. He has defended a doctoral degree in philosophy with a thesis on changes in the understanding of truth. The researcher participates in international conferences, and the results of his academic work have been compiled in books and publications. The event will be suitable for those interested in exploring contemporary information-space and societal issues in greater depth. Admission to the event is free.
