Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 135 ml milk
  • 12 g fresh yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 100 g butter (50 g for spreading)
  • Approximately 300 g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 lemon zest

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp oil (for greasing the bowl)

Decoration

  • Poppy seeds, cinnamon, sugar grains (optional)

Preparation Time

  • Total: 120 minutes

Step-by-Step Instruction

  1. Warm half of the milk and dissolve the yeast along with half of the sugar in it.
  2. Heat the other half of the milk and melt the butter in it.
  3. Lightly beat the egg with the salt and remaining sugar.
  4. Combine both milk mixtures, and stir in the egg. Grate the lemon zest and incorporate it into the dough.
  5. Gradually add the flour.
  6. Knead the dough thoroughly and place it in a greased bowl, covered with plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  7. Divide the dough into small balls, aiming for about 8 based on the size of your molds.
  8. Take one dough ball and divide it into three equal parts. Roll each part into a flat, round pancake.
  9. Melt the remaining 50 g of butter.
  10. Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter, sprinkle with poppy seeds or cinnamon, and fold it in half, then in half again to form a triangle. Alternatively, fold the dough into a shape resembling a flower.
  11. Place three of these shapes into a buttered mold.
  12. Repeat the process with all the dough balls.
  13. Brush the tops with melted butter.
  14. Sprinkle with sugar grains or additional poppy seeds or cinnamon.
  15. Cover and let them rise in a warm place for another 30 minutes.
  16. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  17. Bake for approximately 20 minutes, until the buns are beautifully golden brown.
  18. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
  19. Enjoy the delightful appearance and taste of these flower-like buns.
  20. Serve warm and indulge in their lovely flavor and aroma.

Tips

  • Substitutions: Use honey instead of sugar for a natural sweetener. Almond milk can replace regular milk for a dairy-free option.
